Youth

Young people at St. Martin's are an integral part of the community, sharing fully in parish leadership, worship, and service to our local and global community. We place a high priority our youth ministries, which include:

Breakfast Club - grade 6 - info coming soon.

Rite 13 - grades 7 and 8 - have had a pretty exciting year so far. Starting out with “Messy Sunday” where the youth had a great time getting to know each other thru messy activities. In addition to that, we had many lessons exploring prayer and how we see God. We have also experienced other fellowship outings such as bowling, and a corn maze. The Rite 13 class participates in various service projects such as, the church clean up,
serving lunch at the Christmas Bazaar, and serving pancakes at the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper. The Rite 13 leaders are in the process of planning our first Rite 13 liturgy for our seventh grade members.

The J2A program began this year with grades 9 and 10 and will run in two year increments. So, this group will remain together in J2A next year as 9th and 10th graders learning to be together as companions on a journey as they prepare for confirmation and their pilgrimage in 2009. We have fun, fellowship and education after the 9 am service on Sundays, in Heck Hall basement, and during various outreach activities throughout the year.

2008 will be a busy and fun time for Young Adults at Church (YAC) - grades 11 - 12. They are meeting every other Tuesday evening for confirmation classes which will culminate in a retreat to the Washington Cathedral College of Preachers and confirmation. They will meet during the Sunday school hour during which they will be decorating their space in Heck Hall undercroft, go to Einstein's from time to time, and talk about service opportunities.

Youth ministries at St. Martin's use the Journey to Adulthood curriculum, supplemented by creativity and shaped by the current concerns of our youth ministries' leadership and membership. Our youth ministries provide a warm, welcoming, and supportive community where questions are encouraged, diversity is valued, and every young person has opportunity to discover and exercise her or his gifts for ministry and leadership.
