Preschool through fifth grade Sunday School classes use the Episcopal Children’s Curriculum (ECC). Nearly fourteen years ago, a team at Virginia Theological Seminary developed this curriculum, which focuses on four areas: Old Testament, New Testament, Sacraments, and Church. The units are explicitly connected to the liturgical Church year and incorporate The Book of Common Prayer, The Hymnal 1982, and Episcopal customs and practices. ECC learners discover and interpret the Bible, the covenant of Holy Baptism, what it means to be Episcopal, and how to live the Christian life.
Throughout the year special services and programs are offered for children ages 3 to 103, including the Christmas Pageant, Godly Play, Eucharist training, Advent wreath making, and Kids in Worship Sundays. A children’s homily is offered year round during the 9:00 am school year service or 10:00 am summer service to children ages 3 through 12.
Training and support of our teachers and volunteers is vital to our success. We provide ongoing Sunday school and homily training throughout the year. “Parishes that foster strong ministries of teaching for all their members are most likely to grow and to take on meaningful activities of Christian mission.”* God has blessed our congregation with more than 200 children under the age of 18. We all bear responsibility to recognize and nurture their spirituality and inspire them to walk with God. Please contact Harriet to find how you can help.
